Varithena® (polidocanol injectable foam) is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other related veins in the leg’s GSV system. Varithena® improves symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins.

Like EVLT (laser ablation) and RF (radio-frequency ablation) Varithena® does not require surgical incisions or sedation. It usually takes the doctor less than an hour to administer Varithena®. Patients may resume some activities the same day but should avoid heavy exercise for one week. VArithena may be a good choice for patients with a documented allergy to local anesthetic (lidocaine) as the procedure may be performed without the use of a local anesthetic.
